I did it. I switched. Developing on Mac OS X was hard at first. A lot of my familiar tools were an easy install and weren’t that different. I did however miss a lot of the faster navigation and general snappiness of Windows XP.
Two things that helped ease the pain the most were:
- Quicksilver (almost worth the switch by itself)
- OS X’s keyboard shortcuts. See: this list and Apple’s keyboard shortcuts article.
I don’t think I would have made it without these, especially with the lure of just continuing to run Windows XP via Bootcamp.
Here’s <a href="lifehacker.com/software/mac-os-x/ask-the-readers-switching-from-windows-to-the-mac-194677.php" rel="nofollow">another nice account</a> of ‘the switch’ and shortcut keys.
