Monoprint Series 3 (Strata)

This series returns to the bold blacks and concentric rings of the first series while introducing a reduced palette of translucent inks. The concentric forms are pushed until nearly unrecognizable, revealing structures resembling geological strata. Each pair is printed from a single sheet of washi torn in half by hand, both pulled from the same bath in sequence, forming near-diptychs that record the same moment twice.

After the wide experimentation of Series 2, I wanted to narrow the focus. Fewer colors, more attention to how they interact when left alone. Rather than directing composition, the process became one of watching light and dark, warm and cool, find their own balance. I was drawn to the negative space and the natural patterning that emerged when I stopped trying to control it.
