Monotype Series 8 (Shimmer)

Full-sheet acrylic monotypes on alum-mordanted washi over carrageenan size. First pass introducing a metallic acrylic to the palette — gold against cobalt, emerald, and white.

Blue and green ribbons swirling across a metallic gold ground, white-edged curls scattered like breaking waves Periwinkle field dense with gold droplets and white speckles, green veining through, lightening to mint along the left edge Large blue pools speckled with white and a few gold droplets, thin green veins connecting them across pale ground Scattered blue and green cells with cream and gold droplet cores, floating on pale washi with open negative space Central cluster of blue, white, and pale gold droplets ringed in emerald, scalloped border of smaller blue pools along the bottom Curling blue paisley forms on pale ground, green and white threads between them with faint gold flecks Tightly packed blue and green cells edge to edge, each ringed in green and studded with gold, like a cross-section of clustered eggs Cobalt cellular clusters with a jagged torn edge at upper left revealing cream washi, green veins and flecks of gold threading the lower portion

With the introduction of gold, the sheets turned magic — glowing pools, glamoured water, the kind of thing you'd find if you wandered off the path. The last one has a bite taken out of it. Painful in the moment, a nice print half-ruined in the pulling — but those accidents are what keep the work interesting. So I kept it in.
